How can I make a gift?

You can make a gift to UCSF in three ways: online, by mail, or by phone.

Visit the UCSF online giving site http://makeagift.ucsf.edu.
(There are no additional fees added to your credit card when you make a gift online.)

-Mail

  • Make checks payable to: UCSF Foundation.
  • Include allocation instructions on the memo line.
  • Attach a note as to how you would like to designate your gift.

How do I make a wire transfer?

Fax a letter of instruction to the UCSF Foundation at 415-476-5083. The letter should indicate the total amount wired, the date of the wire, and the name of the program to which the funds should be credited. This information is necessary for UCSF to authorize State Street Bank & Trust's acceptance of a wire transfer.

What are the advantages of making an outright gift?

The most common way of giving to UCSF is to make an outright gift of cash, securities or personal property. Outright gifts offer the distinct advantage of being immediately available to assist UCSF in its programs.

What are the advantages of a making a pledge?

A pledge demonstrates your intention to make a gift to the University and may allow you to give more generously over a period of time than would be possible through a single contribution. You may make a commitment to UCSF payable over a period of three to five years. To make a pledge, simply choose the "Pledge" option on the online giving form.

What is planned giving?

You can support UCSF by arranging a gift through a trust, a bequest, a charitable gift annuity or other planned giving options. Each type of planned gift offers a distinct set of advantages. Some plans provide income for life for a donor or loved one. Others result in an immediate tax deduction or a reduction in capital gains tax. Visit the Gift Planning website to learn more about the various types of planned gifts and how they can benefit you as well as UCSF.

Are international donations accepted?

Yes, UCSF accepts international gifts via check or wire transfer. Please contact custsvc@support.ucsf.edu for assistance in making an international gift.

Are donations tax-deductible in the United States?

Yes, contributions are tax-deductible as provided by law.

Do donations qualify for tax deductions in other countries?

Consult with a tax professional to determine whether a gift from a country other than the United States is tax-deductible.

Are gifts assessed for infrastructure costs or central services?

All gifts and endowment income (except for scholarships) are subject to the University’s Infrastructure and Operations Fund assessment.

Will I receive a receipt?

Yes, receipts are generated for all gifts. Online gifts are receipted via email.

What if I need a duplicate receipt?

How quickly will my donation be processed?

Gifts are processed as quickly as possible. Generally, gifts are processed within one week; however, during peak giving periods (e.g., calendar-year end) processing may take longer.

How are corporate matching gifts processed?

Corporate matches of employee gifts are allocated to the fund chosen by the employee. Employee contributions must be received before corporate matches can be accepted.

Can I make a confidential donation?

Yes, gifts can be made anonymously at your request.

Can I make a gift in honor or in memory of someone?

Yes, gifts can be made in honor or in memory of someone. Include honorarium/memorial information with your gift as follows:

For honorary gifts, include the name and address of the person being honored. The honored person will receive a notification letter that will include your name and the fund the gift is allocated to.

For memorial gifts, include the name of the deceased and the name and address of next-of-kin. Next-of-kin will receive a notification letter.

Notification letters are usually sent within two weeks after gifts are received.

Gift amounts are not included in notification letters.

Notification of online honorarium/memorial gifts is made via email.

Matching Gifts

You may be able to double or even triple your gift. Thousands of companies have a program that matches employee gifts made to support nonprofit organizations. Contact your human resources office to see if your company has a matching gift program and how you can participate. Matching gifts are directed to the same designation as your original gift, and your contribution must be received before corporate matches can be accepted. The UCSF Foundation will recognize you for the total amount.
