Foundation Partners

Support from the foundation community is critical for UCSF to provide the most advanced clinical care, conduct innovative research, shape health-care policy and educate the next generation of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists and scientists. UCSF also works with underserved populations in the Bay Area and around the world on effective disease prevention and access to treatment.

Foundations collaborate with UCSF in many ways:

  • Shape health policy by providing research, data and expertise
  • Help faculty develop start-up research projects, which are often designed to collect data for successful NIH grant applications
  • Provide teaching fellowships and student scholarships
  • Endow professorships
  • Fund the expansion of laboratories and community-based clinics

Strategic investments in UCSF can have a significant impact in advancing science and medicine. Examples of Foundations that have had a major impact are:

  • Larry L. Hillblom Foundation
  • Koret Foundation
  • Sandler Foundation
