Corporations and Foundations: For Faculty

Resources For Faculty

Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) is a centralized resource for faculty, staff, and development officers interested in soliciting funds from corporate and foundation sources. We:

  • Strive to increase the amount of funding given to UCSF from corporations and foundations in support of university priorities and faculty-initiated projects
  • Conduct research to identify potential funding sources, draft letters of inquiry, coordinate the development of proposals, and facilitate the application process
  • Assist in writing stewardship reports and developing other stewardship activities

Faculty FAQ

Unsure about how to proceed with your proposal? Want to find out how to secure a sponsorship for your event? Read below to see if one of our Frequently Asked Questions will address your query.

My Dean (chair, other faculty member) has an idea for a project. Can you meet with us to discuss this?

If you would like to talk with someone in CFR, please contact Jennifer E. Childs, Associate Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations at 415/502-0827 or jchilds@support.ucsf.edu. You can also complete and submit a Project Worksheet.

The foundation I'd like to approach appears on a list of "centrally coordinated foundations." What does this mean, and how do I go about contacting this foundation?

While we encourage multiple approaches to most donors, a small number of leading private foundations have requested that UCSF coordinate inquiries and formal applications – whether the approach is in response to a formal RFP or a general submission, and whether it will result in a gift or a grant. In order to best facilitate a relationship between these donors and the University, we've compiled a list of centrally coordinated foundations, and we ask that you check with us as to the best way of approaching them.

I have an event in six weeks. How can I get a corporate sponsor?

Generally, securing corporate sponsorships takes a significant amount of time, and is not something to be approached this close to an event deadline. Please contact Jennifer E. Childs, Associate Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations at 415/502-0827 or jchilds@support.ucsf.edu.

I've just received a gift check from a foundation. What do I do with it?

Please contact Gift Administration at custsvc@support.ucsf.edu for the proper procedures for logging a gift.

I am starting to prepare a grant applicatin online, how should I proceed?
