The Murray Family

Transforming brain tumor science and care

Dear Friends,

Brain cancer diagnosis is overwhelming for patients and their families, and is uniquely different from other cancers. Not only is the prognosis typically extremely serious, but the presence of cancer in the brain fundamentally affects the essence of the patient's being.

In our case, while we adjusted to the new reality of Gordon's diagnosis and the consequences of treatment – surgery, radiation and chemotherapy – we felt extremely fortunate to have access to the extraordinary medical team at UCSF led by Dr. Mitch Berger. It was an enormous source of solace to know that we had the resources of the premier center for brain cancer treatment in the world. In addition, everyone with whom we came in contact – the schedulers, radiation technicians, nurses, surgeons, oncologists and radiologists – demonstrated the highest level of caring and professionalism.

The Neuro-Oncology team at UCSF is committed to finding a cure for brain cancer, and to continually improving patient care, but we need your help.

Gordon’s life was all about making a difference, whether it was in his professional or personal endeavors. He believed that with commitment and passion, any one person could improve the lives of others. His standard of excellence was an inspiration to all who knew him – his family, his friends, his colleagues and his medical team.

Please join us by making a gift to the Gordon Murray Initiative. Your contribution will continue his legacy and make a tremendous difference to brain cancer patients and their families.

We hope that others who walk this path will have an easier journey because of the Gordon Murray Initiative, and that Gordon’s life, as well as his death, will have made a difference.

Gordon Murray Discusses the Impact of UCSF

CAMPAIGN FOR GORDON MURRAY
Goal: $25 Million

The Gordon Murray Initiative will have an immediate and long-term impact on the treatment of brain cancer patients – and the care and experience of their entire families – at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Brain Tumor Center.

This initiative will provide critical assistance in our efforts to:

Our goal is to cure this disease. I know that we can achieve this goal with the build-out of the research center at Mission Bay and implementation of the intra-operative MRI. We can also do more to make a challenging time for families easier through the support resources that will be provided by the Gordon Murray Initiative. I was honored to be Gordon’s surgeon and friend, and want to carry his legacy forward through this tremendous effort.
